Jeep . How to Install a Water Pump in a Honda CR-VA Honda CR-V's water pump is responsible for regulating the fluid that flows through the engine to cool it. When the water pump goes bad, the engine overheats causing damage to other parts, as well. A water leak and overheating are the first signs of a water pump problem. It requires immediate attention--and a new pump. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Screwdriver Large container Adjustable wrench Shop rag Water pump O-ring Water pump bolts Torque wrench CoolantDisconnect the Water Pump Step by Step : 1 Raise the hood and use a screwdriver to unscrew the clamp that connects the negative battery cable to the battery post. Position the cable away from the battery post. 2 Unscrew the radiator cap to release the pressure. Locate the drain plug underneath the radiator, on the right side. Remove it. Catch the coolant in a clean container and immediately clean up any spills. 3 Use the adjustable wrench to undo the bolts securing the Honda CR-V's accessory drive belt and the water pump pulley. Remove the accessory drive belt, front cover, timing belt and crankshaft pulley. 4 Unbolt the five bolts mounting the water pump to the engine with an adjustable wrench. Undo the bolts in any order. Remove the water pump from the engine, and the o-ring from the groove that held the pump. Clean off the groove and mounting area with a shop rag. Connect a New Pump Step by Step : 1 Inspect the new water pump to ensure it's identical to the old pump and free of any metal splinters or debris. 2 Hold the o-ring onto the new water pump, with the o-ring between the pump and the engine, as you secure it with the new bolts. You can use sealant, but it isn't necessary for the Honda CR-V's water pump. Tighten the water pump bolts and pulley bolts with a torque wrench to 104-105 inch pounds torque, in any order. 3 Reconnect the rest of the parts in the order you took them off, replacing any worn or damaged parts along the way. 4 Place the drain plug back in the bottom of the radiator. Refill it with coolant as specified in your owner's manual. Screw the radiator cap back on. 5 Attach the negative battery cable to the post and tighten the screw on the clamp. Crank the engine on the Honda CR-V and check for leaks. Then, close the hood. Tips & Warnings Honda made the water pump in this SUV easily accessible. However, if you have trouble getting to the parts on the CR-V, use an automotive jack to lift the car and secure it with jack stands.
Jeep . How to Install a Water Pump in a Honda AccordYou can prevent one of the major causes of engine overheating in your Honda Accord with regular leak inspections. A leaking water pump can cause overheating and major engine damage, as well. Replace the pump at the first signs of failure. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Screwdriver Jack and jack stands Large container Adjustable wrench Grease pencil Chisel Shop rags Water pump O-ring High temperature automotive sealant Water pump bolts Torque wrench CoolantHonda Accord Water Pump Removal Step by Step : 1 Raise the hood and use a screwdriver to unscrew the clamp that connects the negative battery cable to the battery post. Position the cable away from the battery post. Jack up the car and place jack stands underneath for added security. 2 Take off the radiator's cap slowly to release pressure. Locate the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator, just behind the grill. Place an empty container under the drain plug, remove the plug with an adjustable wrench and drain the radiator. 3 Use a grease pencil to mark the position of the pulleys on the timing belt to make reinstalling easier. If the belt shows wear and you're going to replace it, then this step isn't necessary. 4 Use an adjustable wrench to disconnect the timing belt and water pump retaining bolts. Undo the five bolts securing the water pump to the Honda Accord's engine. Use a chisel to gently pry apart the two pieces. 5 Remove the gasket, which may be in pieces on both the water pump and the engine. Wipe the pieces away with a clean shop rag if possible or scrape them away with the chisel if needed. Honda Accord Water Pump Installation Step by Step : 1 Spread a bead of high temperature automotive sealant on the new water pump, in a position that coordinates to the o-ring groove. 2 Position the o-ring over the sealant on the pump and hold it in place as you mount the new water pump on the side of the Honda Accord's engine. 3 Keep the water pump in place as you secure it with five new bolts. Tighten each in any order with 108 inch pounds torque. Reassemble any parts in the order you took them off the Honda Accord to get to the water pump. Replace any parts that appear worn or damaged as you go. 4 Replace the drain plug and refill the radiator with the amount and type of coolant specified in your owner's manual. Remove the jack stands and lower the jack. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the post and tighten the screw on the clamp. 5 Reconnect the radio and input the code. Start the Honda Accord's engine and check for leaks. Then, close the hood and clean up any spilled coolant. Tips & Warnings Safely dispose of the drained coolant. In addition to causing slippage, animals are attracted to the chemicals that make up antifreeze. The chemicals are toxic to them as well as humans. Have the security code for your radio handy. When you reconnect the battery, the radio will ask for a security code before operating. It's a security measure that can only be overcome with the correct code. *4. Disconnect the hoses that lead to and from the pump. Consult the sections on hoses and hose clamps earlier in this chapter. If the hose clamps look funky or brittle, replace them with new ones of the gear type shown earlier in Figure 14-8. 5. Remove any brackets or components that are blocking access to the water pump, and unscrew the bolts that hold the water pump hi place. Be sure to lay down everything you've removed in the order in which you removed it, with each part facing the same direction as it was on the car. This way, you can put everything back in reverse order, with no guessing about which end was up or which bolt went where. Chapter 1 has instructions for taking anything apart and getting it back together again. 6. Remove the pump and its gasket. Scrape the spot clean and finish off the job with some sandpaper. Use an adhesive/sealant to attach the new gasket to the water pump. Allow the sealant to dry before installing the pump. 715

Replace the pump, bolts, hoses, fan, and fan belt, and then fill the system with a 50/50 mixture of water and coolant. If the liquid you drained from the system was clean, and you changed the coolant less than a year ago, you can reuse it. If not, save yourself money and labor by flushing the system at the same time, following the instructions earlier in this chapter. 8. Replace the radiator cap and bleed the air out of the system, if necessary. Your owner's manual should tell you whether bleeding a system is necessary, and how to do so. 9. Run the engine while you check for leaks. . Chapter 14: Keeping Your Car from Getting Heartburn 2 t Q Pressure-testing the cooling system If you can't locate the source of a leak and your vehicle is losing liquid from the cooling system on a regular basis, drive to your service station and ask the attendants to test the pressure in your cooling system. They'll probably use a cooling system pressure tester to do so. The tool is inexpensive, and the test involves very little time or labor, so a friendly technician may do the test for nothing. While you're at it, have the technician pressure-test the radiator pressure cap as well. If you have an old vehicle that hasn't had its cooling system serviced or rebuilt in a long time, pressure-testing the system may dislodge the deposits Jeep . How do you implement the business?
A number of people have excellent ideas in mind on starting a business, but there's only quite a few who really considers writing... Oldsmobile LSS. * that are sealing the weak spots, causing the system to leak. Ask the techni cian whether testing the system is worth the risk. Adjusting and Replacing Accessory Belts Chapter 3 tells you how to check accessory belts. Whether or not you can adjust or replace a belt yourself depends on the type of belt(s) you have. Serpentine multi-accessory belts On most modern vehicles, a single, long, flat belt called a serpentine multi-accessory drive belt (see Figure 14-10) drives all the engine accessories. This belt winds its way around every accessory pulley, and on the way winds tightly around a "tensioner" pulley that keeps the belt to the correct tension. In cases where it is possible to adjust the tensioner, you usually find something that indicates the correct tension. Figure 14-10: Serpentine multi-accessory drive belt. Part "l: Kee Pin9 Your Car m Good Condition, System by System Figuring out whether a belt is at the right tension isn't easy just by looking at it, but if the belt is loose, you'll hear squeaky noises when you accelerate sharply. (With the hood up and the emergency brake on, have a friend accelerate the engine while you listen. Be sure to keep your hair and clothing away from the belt.) If the belt squeaks, have a professional replace both the belt and the tensioner because, in many cases, radiators and air conditioning condensers may have to be removed to allow access to the belt, and it may be difficult to remove it and insert a new one.
